Local Emergency Shelters Open Due to Extreme Cold

January 29th, 2019

An emergency shelter will open tonight in Jeffersonville in anticipation of the forecasted bitterly cold weather. Jesus Cares at Exit 0 will operate the shelter from 6 p.m. today, Tuesday, until Friday morning at West Maple Baptist Church, 403 W. Maple St., Jeffersonville.

The shelter will be available for “anybody who needs it,” said Paul Stensrud, director at Exit 0.  Basic services will be provided at the shelter, including showers from 6 to 8 p.m. today and Wednesday, as well as food.

A white flag shelter also has opened in the gymnasium at the Salvation Army New Albany campus, 2300 Green Valley Road. Those seeking shelter must arrive by 10 p.m. TARC is offering free rides from anywhere in Southern Indiana to the shelter. Call the white flag hotline at 812-913-5220 for more information.
