Luttrell named NAFCS Teacher of the Year
New Albany-Floyd County Consolidated School Corp. Teacher of the Year is Jenny Luttrell.
Luttrell, who is a severe/profound special education teacher at Highland Hills Middle School, was chosen out of six finalists. Other Teacher of the Year nominees included New Albany High School’s Melissa Badger, Prosser Career Education Center’s Mike Bauerla, Scribner Middle School’s Russ Cook, Hazelwood Middle School’s Jenna Hinkle and Floyd Central High School’s Robbie Steiner.
One parent, whose two children had Luttrell, sent in a nomination letter.
“She is an amazing person and is always there for her students and families,” the parent wrote. “I remember last year when our son was inpatient in a hospital, and Mrs. Luttrell was with us every step of the way. She was our rock, she laughed with us, cried with us, and she helped us … She hugs us when we need it and lets us know with love when we need to change something. To her, it’s not just a job. We become her children and family.”
Luttrell is now in the running for Indiana’s Teacher of the Year, through the Indiana Department of Education.
